| Application of Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry, ANSI/ISA-S84.01. |
| |
SARACon staff consultants have been among the first in the nation to embrace and fully implement
the ISA-S84.01 Standard in a project environment. They have determined how to use the insights from a
comprehensive Hazards Analysis in an Integrated Safety Management Program and both classify all Systems,
Structures and Components which comprise the safety control strategies, and use these same insights to
determine appropriate Safety Integrity levels for individual Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
These same analysts have written and implemented the procedures needed to both determine SIL levels and to implement
the remainder of the standard's requirements which ensure appropriate reliability upon demand for each individual SIS.
|
Key elements of this program include:
- Development of hybrid IEEE/S84 systems for the nuclear industry.
- Development of a safety management
system (independently or as part of an integrated quality, safety, and health management system).
- Development of a
(qualitative or quantitative) risk management framework, facilitation of hazards analysis, and identification
of Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and Safety Integrity Levels (SILs).
- Development of
explicit requirements and traceability for SIS verification and validation, readiness review, configuration and
change management, incident characterization, and safety growth.
- Application of a formal,
lifecycle-based derivation of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) design from policy level to instrument data sheet and maintenance
and test instructions.
- Implementation of an NQA-1-compliant
software development process.
